Hello lovely friends!
I am so glad you all enjoyed yesterday's C & C, it was very sweet for every one to wish Shannon well! Are you ready for another installment of Tea & Talk? Good! :) Today we have the wonderful owner of Dulcet(aka WickedPen), Kristy's shop is a beautiful example of simplicity speaking volumes. Her photos make every single item look special and as you can see from the shots of her home, she has that special touch in her lovely home as well! So, please welcome Kristy, grab your mug of something warm and get cosy! Take it away Kristy! :)
-1. 3 living things you treasure
my family (parents, sister, various aunts & cousins)
my friends (romantic and otherwise)
my cats
2. 3 non-living things that you treasure
my books
my laptop
all manner of papery things I’ve managed to collect over the years
(photos, postcards, broadsides, artwork, ephemera)
3. favorite time of the year and why
May is my perfect month. In Chicago everything is in bloom by then and the temperatures are warm, yet not sweltering like from June on. Chicago winters are so nasty, and tend to linger a bit well into April, so May is really the first real spring we get. I start craving sorbet, wearing flip flops, taking long walks…
4. favorite things to wear
swishy skirts or dresses
mary janes
cashmere cardigans
5. are you a perfume wearer ? If yes, which one? / top 3 favorite smells
I don’t like most perfumes, but am a scented lotion freak. Right now, I’m loving the Raspberry Vanilla Bath & Body Works Scent. I’m also an avid lover of fruity soaps and bath products—I just bought some more of Anderson Soap Company’s Cherry Blossom soap in a jar on etsy and it’s heavenly. Other than that my favorite scents are lemon and green apple.
6. favorite animal
Cats, most definitely. I recently acquired two twin marmalades, Zoe and Isabel, from a rescued litter, in addition to the two I already had. I’m always drawn to the big cat exhibits at the zoo and have wasted many a lost hour at kittenwar, stuff on my cat, and cats in sinks when I should be doing other things..I’ve resigned myself to the fact that one day I’ll be the crazy old lady with a million cats…

rainstorms
11. top 3 favorite things to eat
bacon & egg sandwiches
crab rangoons
lasagna
12. 3 favorite favorites right now! (from etsy or elsewhere)
Hand painted desk
13. 3 small ways someone has made your day lately
a boy that took me to lunch
my sister and her fiance who helped out at a craft fair on Saturday
the box of books I just got from my publisher
14. 3 small habits/quirks you have that make you specifically you!
I’m a massive control freak. I used to let this bother me and tried to fight it. But in the last 5 years or so, I’ve just come to accept it and admit it upfront.
I also thrive on routine, pretty much the same coffee and pastry daily with a couple variations, the same workflow in the studio, in my job at the library.
I have this thing in all modes of transportation where I just have to sit on the left side—cars (unless I’m driving), buses, trains. Anything else just seems off to me.
15.-Describe your life using 6 words maximum (for each time frame).
PAST: childhood, education, evolution
PRESENT: writing, art, editing, passion
FUTURE: (see above, but more of them)
16. You are truly passionate about indie and handmade goods, tell us how that interest was formed:
I’ve always been interested in the quirky, the original, one of a kind things, particularly visual and literary. I’m a huge collector of small/indie press publications and original artwork/photographs. When I started my own press, and began making forays into paper arts, this interest deepened.
17. favorite books, films, and music... list 3 of your favorites in each category here:
Books: Wuthering Heights (E. Bronte), Ariel (S. Plath), A Moveable Feast (Hemingway)
Films: Labyrinth, The Shining, 9 ½ Weeks (currently drooling over a young Mickey Rourke)
Music: Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Damien Rice
18 .Name 3 words that you can't stand, and 3 that you love:
Can’t stand:
“blog” used as a verb, abstract concepts like “love” “hope” “faith” with no substance inside them, “no.”
Love:
glossalalia
persnickety
starling
19. What are a few of the goals you have for your future and how do you plan on making them a reality?
I am in the process of finishing a new poetry collection manuscript , the kissing disease, that I hope to complete by the end of the year.
I am also hoping for the press and shop ,in the next two years or so, to get to the point where I can actually make a living with it and be able to quit my day job. In the last year or so we’ve been able to expand signifigantly and move into a studio space, but it’s still slow going, especially with the lagging economy..
20. What is the best piece of advice you've ever heard?
Do what you love and the rest will fall into place…
21. what is your favorite quote and why?
“Well-behaved women rarely make history…”
Thank you so much Kristy! It was a pleasure getting to know you a little better and I do love that piece of advice so much....."do what you love and the rest will fall into place" .
