Hello sweet friends!
Today's lovely artist is Lindsey Carr from Little Robot. I have been a fan of Lindsey's work for quite awhile now( Along with a lot of you, I am sure) . There are so many beautiful creations in Lindsey's shop but, this piece in particular has always captivated me. I love hearing about the inspiration behind "Little things" and know you will too.
"The inspirations behind the piece is a bit random. It's made up digitally of various different parts of paintings i've made previously. I like that process because it yields surprises. There are 2 main threads running through most of the things I make. One is a love of books & stories. I am not a terribly good writer so these kinds of images are my attempt at writing. The second is a fascination with beautiful/decorative imagery being mixed with uncomfortable imagery. This image in particular is a celebration of the tiny and defeated.
My feelings looking at it now are that there are certain things which are extraneous to it. I've stopped making my creatures noble, removing all the anthropomorphic tendancies. So, I look at his crown and think it should be removed.
When it's reproduced I hand embellish the flowers and leaves with gold ink, and because of the nature of the paper I use it is very easy for the surface to become scratched when leaning on it to do that...So I quite often end up having to reproduce a few of these to get a good one. It's frustrating but ultimately it's the one reproduction I do (along with Morepheus) which has something personal added each time. "
